Usool e Deen: The Roots of Religion



Lesson Objectives:
- to understand the importance of the usool, the roots of religion
- to summarise the 5 roots of religion

Key Learning Point:
Islam is like a tree with both roots and branches. The roots of religion are called Usool e deen. There are 5 roots that tell us what our most important beliefs are. The roots support the entire tree and so what we believe in is very important.

Activity 1: Usool Tree Craft
A visual representation of how Islam is like a tree. There are 5 roots which tell us what we believe in. The roots support the entire tree and so what we believe in is very important.

Activity 2: Roots Handprint Worksheet
Make a tree picture using the child’s inverted hand print to help remember that there are five roots that represent the main beliefs of Islam. We must understand and believe in them to live Islam in the correct way.
