Christmas in Palestine: Cards and Flyers

Did you know that the 8 pointed Bethleham star is a Palestinian tatreez embroidery symbol that has decorated artwork for centuries. It also looks like a snowflake and is a pattern that you will find on lots of different Christmas items like jumpers and wrapping paper.

This year, Christmas is not being celebrated in Palestine even through it is the place where Prophet Isa (a) was born. This is because of the 20,000 people that have been killed by Israli forces over the last two months in a genocide that is still ongoing.

Quran Facts About Prophet Isa (as)

Activity: 10 Quranic facts about Isa (as)
Read through the facts and match them up with the correct picture.

Older children can use the facts to make a poster or present a short talk on what the Qur'an tells us about Prophet Isa (as) using Surah Maryam, chapter 19 to find the relevant verses.

1. Chapter 19 of the Quran is named after Isa’s (as) mother.
2. Angel Jibrael was sent to tell Maryam that she was going to have a baby who would be a Prophet.
3. Isa (as) was born without a father but he is NOT the son of Allah
4. When Isa (as) was born, Allah told Maryam to eat from a date palm tree.
5. Isa (as) spoke as a baby. He said, ‘Inni abdullah, I am a servant of Allah 19:30
6. Prophet Isa (as) was a great Messenger and was given a book called Injeel
7. Isa (as) was able to heal the blind and ill and make the dead, living again
8. Isa (as) always obeyed Allah who told him to pray, give charity and be good to his mother.
9. Isa (as) was not killed and did not die on the cross but instead was saved by Allah
10. Isa (as) is still alive in the heavens. He will return to Earth with Imam Mahdi.

Prophet Isa (as)

Lesson Objective:
- To become familiar with the story of Prophet Isa (as)
- To learn some facts about Isa (as) through the Qur’an
- To understand why Muslims do not believe Isa (as) was killed/die on the cross
- To understand our role as servants of God

Quran Verse:
Inni ‘abdullah 19:30
Indeed I am a servant of Allah

Key Learning Point:
We learn from Prophet Isa (as) how our job is to be ‘abdullah, servants of Allah. When we become servant of Allah, we obey Him and follow all the step by step instructions that have been sent down in the Qur’an. We learn how to correctly use everything Allah has given us, so that we can become what He wants. We can grow to be our best!

Use the story to explain why as Muslims we differ with the Christian belief that Jesus was killed on the cross.

The Messengers Of Allah

Lesson Objective:

- Understand the role of Prophets- Understand how the 3 major religions arose

- Understand that Prophet Muhammad is the final Prophet and Messenger 
- Understand that the Qur'an is the final book and complete set of instructions from Allah.

Quran Verse: 

Muhammadun Rasulallah
Muhammad (saw) is the Messenger of Allah 48:29

Lesson Introduction:
Allah sent 124,000 Prophets (Nabi) to guide us. Prophets are chosen by Allah and sent to teach us how to follow Allah and behave in a way that will help us become the best we can. 
Allah gave some of the Prophets extra instructions to deliver to the people. These Prophets are called Messengers (Rasool). Prophet Musa (as), Isa (as) and Muhammad (saw) are 3 important Messengers. The instructions they brought were written into special holy books.


Key Learning Point:
Jews, Christians and Muslims all believe in Allah, but follow different holy books.
Prophet Muhammad (saw) is the last Prophet sent by Allah. He brought the final message of the Qur'an. The book contains the complete set of instructions, and all the steps needed, to live in the right way and become our best.

Activity: Role Play Messengers

Select 3 children to be the main Prophets to whom a book was revealed and have the others gather into a group. 

Have the child acting Musa (as) say to the group 'Aminubillah', believe in Allah. 

Ask the children if they'd like to follow Prophet Musa (as), then to line up behind him. 
Explain how this group of people believed in Allah and took Prophet Musa to be the final Prophet. They followed him and the instructions he had brought upto that point, in the book called Torah. These people are called Jews. 

Explain how God's message was not yet complete and Allah sent more Prophets after Musa (as)

Have the next child acting Isa (as) call out to the remaining group,'Aminubillah', believe in Allah.
Ask the children if they'd like to follow Prophet Isa (as), to line up behind him. 

Explain how this group of people believed in Allah and took Prophet Isa to be the final Prophet. They followed him and the instructions he had brought upto that point, in the book called Injeel/Bible. These people are called Christians.

But God's message was still not complete. Prophet Isa (as) actually told the people, "A messenger will come after me, named Ahmad." 61:6
Allah kept on sending more Prophets until about 600 years later, Allah sent Prophet Muhammad (saw) as the final Prophet and the last Messenger.

Have the next child acting Muhammad (saw) to call out to the remaining group, 'Aminubillah'.

Prophet Muhammad (saw) told the people that he was 'khaatam nabiyeen' 33:60, the last Prophet. 
A group of people who had believed in all the prophets upto then, now accepted that Prophet Muhammad (saw) was sent by Allah as the final Messenger. They followed him and the complete set of instructions in the final book called the Qur'an (5:3). These people are called Muslims.
