Saying Salaam

Learning objective: 

- To know that Muslims greet each other by saying Asalam Alaikum 
- To know the importance of rushing to say Salaam first
- To understand how saying salaam should reflect in our behaviour as being peaceful with others.

Quran Verse: Fa aslihu, make peace 

Key Learning Point:
A true Muslim follows Allah’s rules and has the best of manners with all those around him. His behaviour is always peaceful and he doesn't do anything to hurt or upset others.

Different people greet each other in different ways. The Qur’an teaches us that when we meet, we must say "As-Salam Alaikum" or "Peace be upon you".  We are asking Allah to bring them peace.

When we greet each other in this way, we are not just saying hi, how are you. We are saying ‘I am a Muslim. My behaviour and manners are always peaceful. I try my best not to hurt or upset others. What a beautiful and special way to greet people, showing them that they are safe with you.

Activity: Asalam Alaikum Song

Game: Be the first to say salaam
Prophet Muhammad (saw) has told us to always rush to be the first to say Asalam Alaykum to others. Set a timer out of view, and race to see who can be the first to say salaam when it sets off!

Activity: Handprint Heart Handshake
It is good to shake hands when you say Asalam Alaikum. Keep in mind how your manners should be good and peaceful to each other.

Fold a piece of paper in half and draw round your hand with the index finger and thumb right up against the fold. Cut the hand out and open up to reveal the linked hands.

Activity: What Do Peaceful Manners Look Like?
Brainstorm what peace means and what peaceful behaviour looks like. E.g. Kind/helpful, Work together as a team, share with others, find a way to solve arguments calmly, be able to agree on a solution. Use picture cards or scenarios to role play different conflict scenarios and solutions to resolve them.

Activity: PEACE Pledge
Young ones can learn to mime the simple actions behind the pledge to help them remember what peaceful behaviour as a Muslim looks like.
"I promise everyday to act in the way of the Qur'an, copy the manners of the Ahlulbayt and be good!"

Hadith Object Bag

Lesson Objectives: To implement in daily life a practice of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

Quran Verse: "Obey the Prophet (saw)" 4:59

Activity: Hadith Object Bag
Fill a bag with objects associated with a few chosen hadiths.

Smile - When he spoke, he would smile.
Perfume - He loved perfume and his hands were always beautiful fragranced.
Water - He drank water in sips
Raisins - He would have raisins for breakfast
Toothbrush - Brush your teeth twice a day
Shoe - Wear your right shoe before the left shoe
Saying Salaam - He was always the first to greet others

Have the children sit in a circle and take turns to pull out an object. See if they can guess how it relates to the Prophet! Discuss the hadith and how we can implement it into our lives.

Activity: Pass the Parcel
Adapt the Hadith Object Bag activity to play pass the parcel. Stick an image of a Sunnah action onto each layer of wrapping. Play a nasheed and pass the parcel until it stops. Unwrap to reveal the picture and explain how the action is related to the Prophet. Simple favour bags filled with token reminders of the Prophetic Sunnah can be given out.

Draw or stick images of the hadiths as reminders to implement daily.

Sleep is a Blessing

Learning objective:
- to learn the Arabic vocabulary word for sleep and its mention in the Qur'an
- to understand the importance of sleep
- to appreciate sleep as a blessing
- to implement a bedtime routine as recommended in Hadith

We have made sleep for rest 78:9

Why do I sleep?
Every living thing sleeps, from the smallest insect to the largest whale. Allah has made the night especially so that we can rest our body, muscles and mind.

Without enough sleep you can:
Forget what you learned/Be grumpy/feel too tired to play/Become impatient/Have trouble listening and concentrating/Become ill.

Sleep is a blessing from Allah.

A bedtime routine helps you relax and get ready for bed. There are some actions recommended by the Ahlulbayt. A bedtime checklist can be printed from Muslim Mums Magazine or Islamic Pixels.You can also draw up a poster or make a bedtime book using photos of the child carrying out the routine.

Activity: 
To be safe from nightmares make up a 'Sweet Dream Spray' of water on which Ayatul Kursi and 4 Quls have been recited. Have the child spray it around the room before going to bed while asking Allah to keep you safe at night.
Also recommended to keep Surah Dukhan under the pillow.

Part with the reassuring Quranic phrase 'إِنَّ اللَّهَ كَانَ عَلَيْكُمْ رَقِيبًا Allah always watches over you' (4:1) instead of just 'sweet dreams' :)

Learning to Help

Learning Objective: To remember the greatness of Bibi Khadija's giving and emphasis the importance of always trying to help.

Talk about Bibi Khadija (as) and the role she played in helping Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ). It was her help and giving all that she had, that looked after the Muslims, spread Islam and gave the Holy Prophet support.

Mark the day as one to be extra helpful. Make and decorate a badge with the words, "Can I help?" Have the child wear it as a constant reminder and find them tasks where they can help.

Ankaboot/Spider

Learning Objective:
- Making children aware that there are over 100 chapters in the Quran with different names.
- Sura Ankaboot (29) takes its name from the spider's web mentioned in the surah.
- Learn about what Allah tells us about the spider in the Qur'an.

Spider Facts:
Spiders have 8 legs and most have 8 eyes as well!
They spin webs using a sticky material from their body called silk.
The web traps insects for the spider to eat. 

Allah tells us in the Qur’an
- Allah talks about the spider's web in Surah Ankaboot. The spider puts in a lot of effort to weave this beautiful web but it is blown away so easily.
- A spider built a web over the cave that the Prophet was hiding in and it helped to keep the Prophet safe

Wafat Bibi Khadija (as)

Learning objective:
Highlight the generosity trait of Bibi Khadija, giving all that she had in the way of Islam.
Ask the child if he would like to choose something he loves, to give away.

Help the child feel the sadness of Bibi Fatema (as) losing her mother and the Holy Prophet losing his wife.
