Fruit In The Qur'an

Learning Objectives:
- To learn the Quranic vocabulary for 5 fruits which are mentioned in the Qur’an
- To know these special fruits are extra nutritious and beneficial for us to have.

Quran Verse:
Eat of the good things 2:172
kuloo min tayyibati

Quranic Vocabulary:
Teen/rumman/’enab/rotub/zaytoon

Talk about each fruit, letting the children explore how they feel, taste, and look like inside.
Basic facts
Olives: use for massage and eat ‘blessed tree’
Figs: no seeds! Seed becomes edible fruit
Grapes: dried becomes raisins
Dates: sweet, quick source of energy
Pomegranate: one of Prophet's favorites. Friday breakfast

You may even try a blindfold taste test. Explain, how it is important to respect food as a blessing from Allah, even if you aren't keen on the taste. It can take upto ten tries before your tastebuds can decide whether they actually like it or not!

As you offer the fruit plate, have the children ask for what they'd like using the Arabic vocabulary.

Song: To the tune of twinkle little star
'Enab 'Enab juicy grape
Rutab Rutab a brown date
Teen teen a fig I see
Zaytoon olive on a tree
Sweet red rumman
These are fruits in the Qur'an

Eat of the good things

Learning Objectives:
- To learn the Quranic vocabulary for 5 fruits which are mentioned in the Qur’an
- To know these special fruits are extra nutritious and beneficial for us to have.
- To understand how eating healthy food and looking after our body,  is a way of being grateful to Allah.
- To encourage incorporating more 'tayyib' food into daily diet

Quran Verse:
Eat of the good things 2:172
kuloo min tayyibati

Quranic Vocabulary:
Teen/rumman/’enab/rotub/zaytoon

Lesson Introduction:
Allah is Ar Razzaq. He is the Provider of everything. He created the plants, made them grow, filled them with nutrition and taste so that we could enjoy them while helping our bodies grow too. The food we eat, becomes part of our body. The healthier the food we eat, the stronger our muscles and bones will become.

The Qur’an is a book of complete instructions. Allah tells us about fruits which are extra beneficial for us to eat, to help us look after our body. He explains to us how it is important to eat food which is halal and 'tayyib', good.

Food like crisps and chocolates might taste good and you may enjoy eating them, but are they good for you? We must look after the bodies that Allah has blessed us with, by making sure we eat a balanced diet with enough fruits and vegetables.

A way of thanking Allah is to use the blessings He has given us in the right way. Our health is a blessing. We must look after our body so that it stays healthy and we can use it for Allah. We can do this by being careful what kind of food we eat.
